Nintendo Announces Joy-Con Charging Stand but Not Switch 2
Fans of gaming handhelds have been clamoring for a Switch 2 for years. Nintendo just announced a new Joy-Con Charging Stand but didn’t mention whether a Switch 2 would be released soon as well. Will we see one soon?
Nintendo Joy-Con Charging Stand
Nintendo of Europe posted to X, “Charge your #NintendoSwitch Joy-Con controllers and Nintendo Entertainment System controllers with the Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) accessory, available October 17th.”
The wireless controllers, otherwise known as the Nintendo Joy-Con, can only be charged when they are attached to the Nintendo Switch itself. They can’t be charged via USB-C, so having this new Joy-Con Charging Stand will be very useful.
This makes it easier to keep the Joy-Cons charged up, as it can charge two controllers simultaneously. It can be powered itself via the USB-C port on the Switch dock or another power adapter. The charger can be removed from its support as well.
It will be available on October 17 in Europe, Japan, and North America. What has many gamers scratching their heads is why Nintendo is releasing an accessory for a seven-year-old device. Why is this being released ahead of the expected Nintendo Switch 2?

When Will We See the Nintendo Switch 2?
The Nintendo Switch has been well-received since its launch in March 2017. Its unique hybrid design, extensive game library, and innovative features, like detachable Joy-Con controllers, have contributed to its widespread popularity.
Over the years, the Nintendo Switch has seen several iterations, including the Nintendo Switch Lite, a more portable version, and the Nintendo Switch OLED model, which features an improved display and other enhancements. There were rumors of a Switch Pro to be released in 2021 or 2022, but fans never saw this rumor come to fruition.
This leaves Switch fans eagerly anticipating a true successor, often referred to as the “Nintendo Switch 2.” Many are curious about the new features and improvements the Nintendo Switch 2 will offer. Speculations include enhanced graphics capabilities, longer battery life, improved processing power, and new gameplay functionalities. There is also interest in how the new console might integrate with existing Nintendo services and ecosystems.
And now, the announcement of the Joy-Con Charging Stand has led to questions of backward compatibility with prior Switch games. Further, if a Switch 2 is on its way, it stands to reason that this new accessory should work with both it and the original Switch.
The announcement of the Joy-Con Charging Stand has only added to the anticipation of news from one of the most beloved and influential gaming companies. Are you tired of your games on your Switch? Check out these non-gaming apps for Switch.
